Yes, you are. It's not a scientific fact. It's an example of a lack of understanding scientific research papers and their conclusions.

Obesity is NOT a cause of death. If, for example, excess body fat causes heart attacks, why do some lean people die of heart attacks? Must NOT be the body fat...

Fertility issues aren't caused by excess body fat, either.

Researchers, in the papers they publish, will talk about the "lonk" or "association" between excess fat and various health conditions or hard end points (type 2 diabetes or PCOS being examples of a condition, fatal heart attack being a hard end point). The typical non-scientist reader sees that and concludes excess body fat CAUSED those things.

But that's not what it means. Believe me, if a researcher found that excess body fat CAUSED something, the word they would use in the title is CAUSES, not IS LINKED TO, or IS ASSOCIATED WITH.

If you haven't figured it out by now, excess body fat is a SYMPTOM of the same condition that leads to heart disease, PCOS, type 2 diabetes and several other chronic health conditions--but is it NOT the CAUSE of any of them.
